My fellow dweebs, web3 is upon us.. its already here but day by day adoption is increasing. Now is the time to research, experiment + get your toes wet! JUMP IN.. The possibilities for web3 are endless and bountiful if you are willing to use your imagination. Here on Dweeb Digest we shall do our due diligence to share our version of 2021's NFT W^5+H (who, what, when, where + how).. INTO THE ABYSS !!!!!
>> WHO USES NFT ?
Twitter is a valuable resource as most general conversations in the web3 space happen via twitter. ASHLEKNOWHY curated an ever growing list, WEB3 ABYSS, that is compiled via twitter of people, communities + companies that are in this new frontier on the inter-webs.
However, for more specificity, Discord has been coined the new web3 community space. Community members of most DAO's congregate on there building in fellowship with the people who are invested in it whether that be monetarily, time +/or skillset.
>> WHAT IS A NFT ?
If you have caught even a whiff of conversation of the Web3 space then you have probably at least heard "NFT".. Its an important blockchain building block piece that stands for Non Fungible Token.
DWEEB DEFINITION:
NFT [NON FUNGIBLE TOKEN]: A unique building block contractural cell of data stored on a digital interconnected ledger system that cannot be altered ;I like to refer to the NFT as a cell building block in reference to it being a system where in this analogy the (ledger) in its entirety is the body. They can be built on any coin that allows it but the most popular NFT infrastructure is Ethereum then closely followed by Solana. These blockchain contracts are causing paradigm shifts, they go through interactions that are openly displayed for everyone to see, thus transforming business into a transparent, vulnerable + ethical space. Both builders and users are both gaining value as adoption increase thus merging both ends of the spectrum as co-creators rather than producers vs. consumers..
>> WHEN TO USE NFT ?
Simply.. time (that is an illusion) is now! whether as a creator, investor, builder +/or facilitator.. NOW! The fact that web3 is METAVERSE based means it is an omnipresent entity allows you to use whenever.. however.. wherever..
>> WHERE TO USE NFT ?
This space is growing daily so options of where to mint + interact w a NFT expands rapidly with every rising of the sun. Web3 is a system mostly operating in the METAVERSE but hopefully as we know from the movies made leading to this point there is a fine line between taking things too far. The best route is to live a life of hybridization/moderation between METAVERSE + UNIVERSE. However, initially you must travel forth into the abyss of this new space.. the best way is to deep dive and go through research habit holes. Some starting points to get your foot in the door to lead to more research in the location of usage of this arena is looking into OpenSea, Zora, + Foundation.
>> HOW TO USE A NFT ?
The beautiful thing about this space is if you have a creative innovative mind a NFT can be used in an infinite amount of ways. You can (mint) whatever your heart desires, the possibilities are truly endless. One of my favorite sources to stay current in the web3 space is Adam Levy's MINT podcast/ news source..
However, usually contractural NFT's are digital entities but you can link the digital to a physical experience +/or product etc. For example: placing digital tickets on the blockchain to a redeemable amount of live experiences annually. Additional examples outside of the art + entertainment sector would be attaching the deed to a house to a NFT or tracking logistics for production + transport on the blockchain system. Boundless possibilities.. infinite opportunities..
